Tuesday Question
Generally, we are the "authors" of "content" around here - "here" being a blog and not a message board. Recognize, we do, that you've come here not to contribute, but to consume. Nevertheless, there is the sporadic occasion where, either for our benefit or for to exercise the thinkifiers of the masses, we ask you a question. Today's question is ...
Which opposing player do you most look forward to dominating this year?
With no Sarah Jessica Parker Wilson or Derek Pegues to push around, who can be a new object of Rebel ire? My nominations are:
Terry Grant because he spurned Mississippi schools in favor of the Evil Empire.
Ryan Mallett because he will, likely, be challenging Jevan Snead statistically.
Anthony Dixon because his central position as State's running back may well overshadow our talented crop of backs.
Julio Jones because ... well, because.

I look forward to...
Dominating Terry Grant and Bear Bryant Zombi and whoever else Alabama wants to throw at us when they come to Oxford Town.

This is a tough one
I’m going with Mallet, Jones, Dixon, and Grant in that order.
I’m tired of all this yapping about Mallet. I want him on his butt every play until he’s too scared to come back on the field an fakes a cramp (think: Colt Brennan vs. UGA). And I want to humilate the Hawgs. I also hate Alabama, so that’s why I put Julio second. I hope he only catches one pass the whole game, and I hope its a long bomb that would help them win the game, but instead, it gets called back because he ran out of bounds at the start of the play. I don’t care about State or their running back too much because we’re going to win by a bigger margin this year. I didn’t follow anything about Grant, but being on the Tide’s roster is reason enough to wish him ill.
Question for YOU
Why didn’t you make this a poll? It would have been simple and there still would have been discussion.
I want to dominate Jones ’cause that means our secondary is the best it has been this decade.
Why have you been so critical lately?
Seriously? First you tell them to write better, now you question how they do their posts? Is Oxford so dead right now, you feel the need to come on here and boss people around? You should be grateful they’re posting at all.
But you’re right on with your reasoning for choosing Jones.
Yes, seriously.
Yes, I commented on their writing Yes, Oxford is dead. No, I am not bossing anyone around. I’m challenging folks (fun writing styles request) or making fun of the always tech savvy Ivory Tower (much love, bro).
You’re right on about my ungratefulness. I apologize.
I don't know about "looking forward to dominating"
but I’m pretty jacked about getting to see Eric Berry in person. As Rebels, we should have a soft spot for All-America beast defenders who have to play for a crappy team.
I was in Fayetteville in 2006 (before we all knew how whacked out all the inhabitants were), in a game where they beat us by seven touchdowns (seriously). My whole section was Razorback fans, and they all stayed until the very end because they wanted to see, in their words, “the only linebacker in the nation who can catch Darren McFadden.” And P. Willie didn’t disappoint. I think Berry, like Patrick, will be worth the price of admission for the Vols this year.
Has to be Ryan Mallett
While Bama fans may be delusional, they have quickly taken a back seat to the denizens of Fayetteville.
I think it is more likely too, that we’ll be able to dominate QBs rather than WRs. We’ve not got a shutdown corner, though I think Marshay will be good, he still will give up height to a player like Jones. (So I think we’d be more apt to dominate McElroy and Lee or Russell or whomsoever is playing QB for MSU at that point).
Why no poll?
Because I was hoping you creative pieces of crap would throw out some other names. I wasn’t trying to box you in. So, thanks, Bill, for thinking outside of said box.
That mind-opening honors college seems to be working out real well for Role Player and Drake.
Destroying your traditions since [YEAR REDACTED].
If you want an outside the box answer
don’t phrase your question in a multiple choice style. I realize you say “my nominees are” but you can’t expect to ask a question, list 4 choices, and not have the discussion focused around those. I do agree with you that a poll limits discussion b/c lazy people will simply vote and not put any effort into making a decent reply.
A little late, but my answer is
Ryan Mallett.
We already made Tebow cry. Why not go for another?

After Tebow cried
he dominated. I don’t think I want that to happen at Arkansas. I realize it’s not likely, but still, I only won’t Mallet crying over his broken tail bone.
My bad
i guess the complete lack of sleep caught up with me. I like how you’ve completely ignored all the errors over the past week or so—there have been more than usual (I’m looking at you Ivory Tower)—only to point out mine.
In honor of our followers in Hawg-ville, I guess I should add: Correcting my grammer obviously means my points are superior to yours or you would have made a real arguement. Damn. Oh, yeah, I said it.
argUment
and my belated vote is for julio – i want to whip alabama like nothing else this season.

I'd like to draw your attention to
the part where I said: “In honor of our followers in Hawg-ville, I guess I should add…”
Thanks for picking up on it.
It wasn't mutilated enough
I actually considered that, but when I saw that “yours” was proper, I discounted it.

The Rebel D-line will be closer to average this season than EXPECTED. (there's that damn word again)
With that being said, you shouldn’t EXPECT to dominate anyone.
Overall, the run-defense won’t be bad, (the LBs should be better) but the pass-rush won’t be as good as last years without Peria Jerry collapsing on the pocket up the middle.
Hardy will be easier to contain for opposing O-lines with the play-calling going away from him. He’ll also be tired in the 4th qr. after trying to chase down that many plays.
So before all you rebel fans start crying about how much experience you have coming back, or how much smarter you are than those wacked-out, salooya, eehaaw, slap yow Granny Arky fans, who’s going to be the next Peria Jerry?

You just can't say
that we’ll be good, can you.
BTW, what do you think we expect? I expect ten wins.
by Juco All-American on Jul 11, 2009 1:26 PM EDT up reply actions
Exactly.
Thanks for clarifying my point, Juco. If your an Ole Miss fan, it’s pretty easy to expect 10 wins after the sucsess of last season, combined with a #77 strength of schedual ranking. The difference maker will be the coaching. When you lose to South Carolina on the road, ‘Bama at home, LSU at home, quite possibly even Arkansas at home in a shocker, then barely sqeak past Miss St. in a nailbiter, you won’t be so quik to critisize those so-called wacked-out, Houston Nutt obsessed, Arkansas fans anymore.
Whut eva will you do, Belvadeah?
