Wednesday Question: Get Over It.
Generally, we are the "authors" of "content" around here - "here" being a blog and not a message board. Recognize, we do, that you've come here not to contribute, but to consume. Nevertheless, there is the sporadic occasion where, either for our benefit or for to exercise the thinkifiers of the masses, we ask you a question. Today's question is ...
Are You Going to the Memphis Game?
The Alumni Association is chartering drunk boring buses to the Liberty Bowl for the game. They'll provide guests with transportation, snacks, cups, and ice, but are coming straight back to Oxford after the game (no pit stop at Silky's).
I've been to the Liberty Bowl the last two times we've played there. I don't have enough money this year to make as many away games as I did last year. And, even total domination is unlikely to entertain me enough to make up for the fact that I have to go Memphis and support their rinky-dink athletic department.
So, as for me and my house, we'll be enjoying that new partnership with the Worldwide Leader.

Hell no.
I’m pretty sure I’m spending that holiday weekend on the beach as opposed to frying my asscheeks on the bleachers of the Liberty Bowl while choking down $5-a-cup sweet tea. ESPN will suit my needs just fine.

I'll be there...
if by “there” you mean a bar in China that stays open all night to watch American Football.
Hell yes.
This is the last time we will play these wanna-be’s for hopefully some time. They are horrible fans with no knowledge of football or fashion.
The argument that your $50 will support the Memphis athletic department holds no water with me. Because, guess what? Memphis gets part of the gate at a game they play in Oxford, and it’s no measly 5 or 10 percent, it’s more like 30.
Memphis will only get 70 percent of your $50, also known as $35.
I’m going and I’m sweating to death under the scorching Memphis sun. I’m parking in Orange Mound with my McCain-Palin sticker. I’ll be eating Rendezvous and slamming a Diver within an hour after this poor match-up finally concludes.
If I predict it, there's an 50 percent chance it happens.

I would like to point out
what complete BS the ticket prices are. $50 for a game in a terrible stadium, in burning heat, and in the ghetto? How much is Memphis State harging for UTEP tickets? 50 yard line seats for $35, and i bet you can find somebody desperate just before that game that’ll part with one for $20. Go screw yourselves, you T-I-G-E-R spelling, price inflating jackasses. And by the way, no matter what NCAA 2010 says, we’re not a rivalry
Nope
24 pack of my beverage of choice, a huge steak and a comfortable recliner will be my game day. Fuck sitting in Memphis.
Iceberg, dead ahead!
^Inside joke for Ivory Tower. I wonder if he remembers…
Yeah, I plan on being there. I just have to find a ticket. $50? That’s crap. I hope Memphis State University of Memphis enjoys the last season they’ll make any money off of football.

They won't make money off football.
Last year, their football program lost something like 500 thousand dollars.

I don't know any actual numbers...
but my pseudo-theory still holds, because I was referencing them profiting off of Ole Miss fans. Since last year’s game was in Oxford, they shouldn’t have made any profit at all.

I'm there.
I’ve never been to the liberty bowl, and hopefully this will be the last opportunity to visit for a loooong time.
I am looking forward to taking the drunk train Amtrack from Jackson to New Orleans for the Tulane game next year. What a step up that will be!
The Amtrak to New Orleans is the shit.
You can drink, the scenery is alright, AND it drops you off right in front of the Superdome. What else could you ask for?

Yes.
Not missing a game this year. Vacation days have been saved for the fall.
When was the last time we played Southern?
I would much rather watch us play Southern than Memphis. State is a complete joke. How about we start the season off with a little in state competition?
