Wheels Fall Off...  Again

Whells_fall_off_medium

You wanna talk about a team that can't ever-not even once-catch a break?  Well then let's talk about Ole Miss baseball.

We're never going to make it to Omaha.  Sorry fans, it's just not in our cards.  But hey, our stadium is nice...

What do we have to do? Seriously, it would be better for us to lose our first game of the super. We’re only zero for ONE under Bianco when we lose the first in a super. We’re zero for THREE when we win the first.

Condolences, gentlemen,

but that was a very good team in UVA. I’m afraid we’re about to find that out for ourselves.

ar tiger

Don’t kid yourself…lsu has a way more superior team than UVA…lsu’s bats are way stronger and more consistent than ours and as long as your catcher can pick off their 2nd base stealers, lsu should dominate UVA.

We messed up with over analyzing at the plate and trying to bunt over every damn base runner we had. Biancos obsession with small ball really hurt us against a teams whose pitching staff and fielders were prepared for the bunt. I’m a sure sad rebel right now

I don't blame our catchers

They were stealing off of our pitchers. Their high leg kicks were slowing down their delivery. Our catchers rarely had a chance to throw out a base runner.

I agree with everything else. We played for a run here and there. Sometimes you just have to let the players play and come up with a big inning. The bunts for outs were momentum killers, even when they advanced runners.

The Super Regional Curse Continues..

What a disappointment. Congrats to the Rebs for a great season, but one can ‘t help to feel let down. First, Bittle goes down, Strike 1, Button had that error in game 2 and game falls apart, Strike 2, Buk is out and the Rebs continue to be unable to succeed in must need clutch performance, Strike 3, We are out again…. the Super Regional Curse Continues… Geaux To Hell LSU and Geaux to Hell Virgina’s

Isn't this an Ole Miss blog?

I suppose I need to go to Tiger Droppings and drop a deuce…

Artiger is good people.

He’s a big LSU fan, but he likes SEC sports in general.

Take a picture, trick.

I happen to like Ole Miss.

I just didn’t attend there. Didn’t realize this blog existed in a vacuum.

No, Buud, it doesn't.

We don’t mind folks from other schools here. Yes, it’s an Ole Miss site but it is nice to have different points of view, don’t you think?

Yes, I think all colors are welcome

over at “And the Valley Shook”, as well as other sites. Remember, if you don’t let in some fresh DNA from time to time, you end up with the University of Arkansas.

I'll say this...

This was an exciting series, the best IMO the entire weekend. I was somewhat aware of the level of support that OM fans have for their school, but I believe after watching this weekend that I fully appreciate how great your fans are to the team. After the game was over yesterday, it occurred to me that the UVa players and coaches earned and deserved to advance to Omaha. The fans of the Cavs however, could learn a lesson from Ole Miss as to how to support their school. UVa has never been a ‘rah-rah’ school in terms of sports, but their level of fan support has a long way to go to match OM.

A little too much praise...

Though you are correct that we Ole Miss fans are pretty hard core with our support, we are obviously hard core with our disdain for the slightest poor performance – I understand that this weekend was an abomination, but who doesn’t use hyperbole – as well. That is not the greatest thing in the world.

I thought about writing a fanpost about fans, but I am lazy so here is just one thought:

Yes, we have 9,000 people show up to a game, but by the 7th inning, 1,000 of them were gone, and a good 3,000 were gone before the end of the 8th. It was sad. The student section did not even make that much noise throughout the game until late when a hand full of our football players put on a striptease in right field – probably a good thing though, considering one of the idiots wore a nice bright orange wifebeater. He probably has a yellow, red, pink, purple and even a platinum-laced shirt just like it, but no, orange it was.

I distinctly remember times throughout the entire weekend when a couple hundred UVA fans SILENCED our thousands. UVA fans aren’t that bad, and we are not that great. Just wait and see what happens after our first loss in the fall and we call for Nutt’s head or when all the old people sit in the Tad Pad and fall asleep when we are about to upset a national title contender.

(I’m not proofreading this post, so have fun commenting on my countree gramma.)

A little too much criticism...

now hold on a sec, i know you arent knocking OM baseball fans…

ya granted people were leaving sunday early, but when your team has been through the rollercoaster season that ours has and you end it with a just a shit show performance on Sunday and you are down 3, then 4 runs, who’s to blame them for leaving? especially considering most of them are just those fans that live in MS, not necessarily alums, and just so happen to cheer for OM rather than MSU, so they don’t really have THAT much invested in the team…i wouldnt be too surprised if last weekend and this weekend were the first baseball games for a lot of the fans in the swayze to attend just simply because its the potential trip to omaha

ok, so ya, UVA fans “silenced” our fans when they went up 4-1….but these were also the same UVA fans that, by sunday…were copying our fans: doing the CLAP CLAP CLAP on their pitcher’s 2 strike counts, and even (laughingly) attempted the TIITD chant during one of Baker’s full counts in the first inning(to which the guy struck out swinging and they didnt try that anymore)

comparing the 3 big sports too isnt really that fair either….each of our sports is at such different places right now….football has the most hype its EVER had after a great finish last season, basketball is steadily rising despite issues , and baseball has consistently knocked at the door of omaha, but never turned the doorknob, so to compare the fanbases of each program is a bit unfair

i forget who posted it, but when UNC, one of the fairly consistent top 5 baseball programs in the country has no more than FIVE THOUSAND in attendance at their super and we have almost 10k each game, we are doing something right

I forgot...

having lots of fans is the whole point of sports;
we are the only baseball fans in America that chant TIITD;
and giving distinct (not similar) examples of the fan support from the other two major sports does not make sense.

BTW, I never said that ours fans flat out suck (even though I believe that to be true in certain instances). I just don’t want us gaining credit where it is not due.

in defence of the UVa fans...

from my seat in left field, I could clearly hear the cheers of the folks in orange on the 1st base line.

The contingent of Wahoos present held their own.

my bad...

… should have kept reading to see the extensive debate that had already ensued.

by RedHighHeels on Jun 8, 2009 10:57 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm going to go out on a limb

and guess that a lot of those UVa fans were relatives of players. I’m not going to debate the enthusiasm of those Hoo fans at the game, my comments are directed more to the fans I’ve witnessed over the past 30 years. I do know that overall, UVa fans are not the fans who allow themselves to get excited over their sports programs, I guess you’d have to be here.

by cvilleDuke on Jun 9, 2009 12:26 AM EDT up reply actions

Maybe...

our fans will never be good enough – no matte who we support. This might be a case of the grass is always greener. Because I would probably say the same thing about our fans: you’d really have to be here to understand.
