The curious case of Evan Button

Button's error in the eighth inning help the Virginia Cavaliers beat the Ole Miss Rebels 4-3.  Also, Mike Bianco now becomes 0-5 in games that would send his team to Omaha.  

Pomeranz gave a gutsy 7 inning performance and only allowed two runs (10ks), but the wheels came off an inning later while Goforth was relieving.  I really don't blame David, but I do blame Button.  

If you didn't see it, Evan Button fielded a ROUTINE ground ball, and he screwed up the throw.  As a result, Smith was unable to field it, and the runner reached safely.  

Offensively, the first two Rebel runs came in the top of the first after Henry hit a Texas leaguer and Power hit a two run shot.  In the Pomeranz gave a gutsy 7 inning performance and only allowed two runs, but the wheels came off an inning later while Goforth was relieving.  I really don't blame David, but I do blame Button.

In the ninth, Miller led off with a double.  Hubbard bunted him to third.  Mort popped out, Ferguson was intentionally walked, and Henry grounded out to end the game.

Who's to blame?  Bianco, Button and Phillips.  Phillips was completely awful and it was his lack of ability that led to a rally killing double play and one of the runs we allowed where he threw the ball in the wrong direction.  Why is he still on the team?

Button choked.  I'm not saying from whom, but he gets it honest.

At 2 on Sunday, Nathan Baker will climb the hill.  Virginia's starter is TBD.  

Can Bianco do it?  You Bianco apologists can blame everyone else, but he eventually must get us there.  OR ELSE (Ed: OR ELSE BWE WILL CONTINUE TO HATE YOU ON THE INTERNETS!).
