Around SBN: Josh Hamilton's Unique Public Statement On His Addiction

Football Depth Chart: 2010-2011

I was talking to someone the other day about how much we'll have to rebuild after this season. While I certainly think this season poses our best chance to win big for a while, I don't think we will be in as bad of shape as many do.

Here's how I see our two-deep in 2010.

TWO DEEP: 2010-2011

QB:

Nathan Stanley Raymond Cotton
HB: Brandon Bolden Enrique Davis
FB: Derrick Davis HR Greer
WR: Patrick Patterson Lionel Breaux
WR: Markeith Summers Andrew Harris
TE: Zaccheus Mason Ferbia Allen
LT: Bradley Sowell Emmanuel McCray
LG: AJ Hawkins Joshua Tatum
C: Evan Swindoll Recruit
RG: Rishaw Johnson Recruit
RT: Bobby Massie Logan Clair
LE: Kentrell Lockett Gerald Rivers
NT: Ted Laurent Justin Smith
DT: Lawon Scott Corey Gaines
RE: Craig Drummond Alex Williams
WLB: Allen Walker Lekenwic Haynes
MLB: Jonathan Cornell Jason Jones
SLB: Brandon Sanders Tim Simon
CB: Jeremy McGee Charles Sawyer
CB: Marcus Temple Julian Whitehead
FS: Johnny Brown Jared Mitchell
SS: Jamar Hornsby Fon Ingram
K: Andrew Ritter
P: Tyler Campbell
ATH: Randall Mackey Korvic Neat

Just a very few points of interest.

I assume Jevan will go pro.

Until I have actually seen Bobby Massie attempt to play left tackle in the SEC, I will continue to say that I think Bradley Sowell will hold onto that job. Sowell has good footwork and agility. He simply needs to improve his strength. That will come in time.

We're hurting at guard, center and cornerback.

If Tig Barksdale qualifies, safety could be a strength of our team. I've heard rave reviews about Jared Mitchell.

Our defensive line will still be quite good assuming Kentrell returns for his senior year.

Now it's time for our loyal readers to critique and criticize what I have written. Please, be brutal.

Bullet Points:
-no way in hell Hornsby is still on our team 2010 season
-Mason won’t be able to make up the physical difference between he and Ferbia by that time, though I’m sure we’ll use 2 TE sets much more often
-if McCray is worth a shit, he’ll be starting at guard by this point….and after a year, don’t be surprised if Sowell and Massie switch places….nothing against Sowell
-I actually think Lockett will be gone after this year….I predict he’ll have enough success to be 2nd or 3rd round pick
-are you sure Cornell will have eligibility? I expect Shackleford to make a dent somewhere
-I hope for the sake of my sanity that our CB rotation is completely different by next August….let’s just hope there’s some serious influx of talent/youth development
-Ohr mah goashhh…..wur da fukk is Clayton More…..hes da necksed Archeee!!!!!
-pretty damn sure brandon sanders is a dback….i hope he’s in the CB rotation along with Demareo Marr and Artice Kellum

Rebuttal

- Hornsby: Legal trouble or going pro?
- Zaccheus Mason is a playmaker. Ferbia Allen is too, but I think we’re going to be throwing to TEs a bit more now and will see Mason emerge.
- McCray projects as a tackle.
- I think he might leave too, but if he comes back, he’ll be the featured pass rusher instead of the backup to Hardy (even if he starts over Hardy)
- Yes. Cornell got a medical redshirt his second season. He will be a senior in 2010-2011.
- Yeah. We desperately need some young corners to emerge.
- Clayton Moore… may not be terrible.
- Brandon Sanders moved from safety to linebacker this offseason and has been lauded a good bit by coaches. They like speed more than size at linebacker.

-Hornsby:definitely the former…..even if he were to get on campus, he’ll never last til next August; he’ll be kicked off the team by the end of this season;
-McCray:so was Oher…we let him get his feet wet at Guard(and why not since we’ll hopefully have 2 more than adequate tackles)
-Clayton Moore:he’s cocky, from Louisville, MS, and inadequately sized(see: Andy Kennedy in bed)
-Sanders:How does a player listed on the roster at 6’0" 190 play LB in the SEC….i guess it’s possible, but I’m guessing he’s put on 10 or 15 more LBS

What about Powe

Do you him going pro as a result if his age?

Also, Mason will grow into a LT, bank on it

by Chew on Jun 23, 2009 1:30 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah.

Powe’s gone after next season.

It’s astonishing to me when people say Mason will be a left tackle. Unless we go A-11, I would be incredibly pissed if that happened.

We're going to start a true freshman at C?

BUT he only had 3 stars!!!!!!

I actually expect Corey Gaines to play center for us. We have two centers this year, and both of them are Seniors. We don’t need much help at the DT position, but we do at C.

Another thing- where’s Marry? I thought for sure he would be in the linebacker rotation before too long.

Weren’t you guys making fun of Julian Whitehead for being really slow not long ago?

Another thing, if Snead leaves and Stanley gets hurt or some shit, we’re fucked at QB. I don’t think Cotton will be ready after just one year. I guess we could send Mackey back there, but still, we would have no depth past that.

I’m thinking with our RB depth, it wouldn’t be suprising to see Rodney Scott moved to CB.

Interesting points

- Evan Swindoll is the type of player that has made Mike Markuson’s career.
- We need defensive tackles really badly. I know that we need centers too, but we have a significant number of OL who can shift over there. We currently have one DT who returns for 2011. Justin Smith.
- Marry is a MLB I think. It will take a bit for him to make the two deep.
- Julian Whitehead is very aggressive and probably the most physical corner we have. Yes. He’s too slow to cover Mike Wallace. Who isn’t?
- Meh. I’m sure we would have a QB on campus who would be a good enough “hander-offer” to borrow a phrase thrown around by many Arkansas fans on RSC prior to last season.
- We have significant running back depth, but we don’t have any true scat backs. Scott has a chance to fill that role, as does Devin Thomas.

Potential O-Line moves/starters for 2010

Rishaw to C: he was tried out here this spring, but was needed more as a starter than as a backup this season. This move would allow us to ease Swindall into the position rather than to just throw him out there as a True Frosh.

If this happens, could possibly see Alex Washington or the Brown kid from TX as a starter at G in 2010.

I think Snead and Powe leaving early is not a bad assumption especially worse case scenario.

Shows we need a solid QB recruit this year again.
RB is right on. (FB too I assume)
WR about right (also will have Melvin Harris + think its key recruit position)
TE (also EJ Epperson, may be one of our stronger positions in 2010 – 11 for a change)
OL (the reason I think its most likely for Snead to go pro is that in ‘10 we’ll be breaking in at least 3 new starters on the line as we are losing Jerry, Geralds and Neely – # 1 need in recruiting imo)
DL – agree, think Locket returns to attempt to improve his draft status as he will be The Man.
LB – just below WR, even with QB as far as recruiting need. think you have it about right. (could change we have a lot of bodies coming in between LB/S)
DB – hopefully one of the 97 recruits we got in can strengthen this position as well (right behind the OL in need imo)
ST – think we’re pretty set. Will need a new PR to replace Marshay as well. KR will be open this year so wouldn’t think its Bolden back there?

ATH – think you have that dead on too. Can haz scat back?

Think you have it pretty good to look so far ahead. Our OL is the number one need again I will stress. Hopefully we’ll get some of the backups some QT this year and going against our dL should help them.

I think you nailed it pretty well except for QB.

Z. Mason will beat out Cotton as the backup for Stanley. Count on it.

True should be QB - Z

RB – Z
WR – Z
TE – Z
LB – Z
S – Z
K – Z
P – Z
Ath – Z

Like the phrase Ghost always uses, “your grasping for straws again”
Obviously, they’re several of these players who are very good recruits, but as usual with Nutt’s recruiting stratigy, some of them still have to make it on campus.
Some of these recruits will attend a Jr. college, and even then are suspect to returning.
The rest will just disappear, like Hornsby.
Yep, it looks like your in very good shape from where i’m standing…..for a good ’ol fashion Arkansas ass whoopin.

Hm...

Only two of these players are not already on campus.

by Juco All-American on Jun 24, 2009 8:19 AM EDT up reply actions

With 37 we shouldn't have a problem I would think this year.

The next class will be interesting, but if we sign 28 we are still going to have to place a few I would think?
(Based off of greyshirts/walkons)
I was under the impression too we are pretty good shape as far as getting the best ones to campus.

Strategy.
