Cal Gets Busted

Well, the reason for good ole Calipari's decision to move to Lexington just became clearer.  While I'm sure a legitimate basketball conference (that he will have no problem winning), a program steeped in tradition and the input of Kige Ramsey closer to his fingertips contributed, there's another obvious answer to why Cal left Memphis.

The Commercial Appeal is reporting that Memphis is being investigated for major rules violations that occurred under Cal.

If you're too lazy to click the link, the NCAA is accusing Memphis of having an "unknown individual" take the SAT for a player that played for Calipari during the 2007-2008 season.  The NCAA redacted the name of the mystery player Derrick Rose's name from the report.

I have a feeling this case has about as good of a chance as getting Memphis basketball in trouble as the Reggie Bush house scandal does in getting USC stripped of a national title.

So what effect will this have...

…on our Memphis area recruiting? Kentucky basketball? SEC basketball at large? Anybody have any thoughts on that?

Take a picture, trick.

I don’t know the effect on recruiting, but if Memphis State has to take down their final 4 banner and forfeit their record 38 wins, it will have a dramatic effect on happiness of the good people of Memphis. And by “good People” I mean the vast number of SEC fans who get sick of hearing the arrogance spewn from Tiger fans from about November until March each year. I say fuck ’em.

what amazes me most is that the tiger fans are split into three groups: those laughing at Cal whom they feel will be punished (he won’t), those who are crawling under their rock a little early this year (they typically wait until after Ole Miss beats their ass in football), and lastly those rocking in a corner silently denying that anything will come of this. Where’s the contigent of intelligent tigers (surely they have a few?) who are pissed that Derrick Rose completely stuck it in their asses and left for the NBA with so much as some consolation cuddling? That asshole cheated, played for one season, choked in the NCAA title game, and then bolted leaving memphis with this time bomb. To make it worse, the guy played a game against the Grizzlies and didn’t even have the decency to acknowledge his former college team, but instead just claimed his high school from Illinois. I don;t even like Memphis State, but that’s a dick move for a team that basically let you cheat your way to a fortune.

All that said, I hope the NCAA plows their mothers while memphis watches and cries. this couldn’t happen to a better bunch of assholes…well except for maybe LSU.

slight correction

there is a fourth segment of the memphis state “nation” that is now furiously calling radio shows questioning Powe’s ability to read, as if Ole Miss would be stupid enough to cheat for the most highly investigated athletic recruit in the history of college sports.

I wonder if memphis will have a ceremonial funeral pyre set up for that final four banner.

Charge against ROse -- Memphis hit by what it did not know

Actually the charge is that Rose had someone take his SAT for him. There is no charge of institional problems nor are there any charges against any staff.

THe charge is that Rose cheated and it does not metter if Memphis knew or not. Memphis may be punished for a players actions that it did not know about.

Also, it is being reported by O’brien of the Chicago Sun that a player was threaten by the NCAA to “talk” or he would lose any chance to play NCAA basketball.
