So it turns out Nutt was contacted by Kansas and he did speak with them.

From the article: "I think if you do the research, you’ll find out that I never instigated these conversations with other schools," Nutt said. "Jimmy (Sexton) (Nutt’s agent) wasn’t out there beating down doors. He didn’t even know Kansas had contacted me until I called him" ... "I appreciated the interest, but the timing wasn’t right. I thought we handled this the right way. Kansas called. I discussed things but didn’t let it get too drawn out. And then within 24 hours it’s over."

Whatever, coach.

Good to know.

Agreed.

I certainly don’t expect any coach to completely ignore every offer that comes his way. If he’s telling the truth though, I’m glad he’s not out there beating down doors, looking to go somewhere else.

by allicolls on Dec 8, 2009 5:13 PM EST up reply actions

Not saying I believe every word up there,

but uif this is how it went down, then I am ok with that. I would rather have a coach that other programs are at least interested in than one they’re not. Means he is doing something right.

by RebelBarrister on Dec 8, 2009 4:43 PM EST reply actions

The "timing" wasn't right?

Hold on a fucking second, here. Under what circumstances would the “timing” be right, Coach?

I invented red pants.

by The Bastard Son of Billy Brewer on Dec 8, 2009 4:49 PM EST reply actions

The "timing" comment bothered me too

I guess ideal timing would have been a stronger finish. That comment is loaded with “if things work out in my favor I’m out of here.” If Nutt does put a complete season together, is he gone? What do our recruits think about the fact that a single, unsolicited call from a middle of the pack team in a relatively weak Big XII North, piqued Nutt’s interest? What if a more attractive offer comes up?

The uncertainty is unnerving.

RV's, walk-on fans, and fictitious victories. Bama's in town.

by 18 or under on Dec 8, 2009 5:24 PM EST up reply actions

Middle of the pack, my ass

Kansas is an abyss for any football coach. Mangino is the most successful coach that has ever been there and they fired him for having a bad attitude (not saying they shouldn’t have).

Football-wise, Kansas has always been a joke. They’ve only had success due to Reesing, Mangino, and an embarrassingly weak Big 12 North.

The timing could be a host of things though including us running him out like at Arkansas. As long as he’s here I don’t care.

by 7thYearJunior on Dec 8, 2009 6:03 PM EST via mobile reply actions

The timing means

“I’m out of here as soon as my kids graduate and aren’t involved on the Homecoming Court, etc.”

DAMN IT TO HELL!!! I WAS going to say something nice about LSU... but my clock ran out.

My comments are of my own and do not represent any other bama fans or blog or website or blackberry whatever else can be connected to the stupid internet.

So if you don't like what I say grow a set or ban me and ANYONE else can ban me to if they want. I don't care about your nancy feelings anymore than you care about mine.

Deal with it. (I have for the past decade)

Timing comment.

Maybe the plan all along has been that he will eventually turn the program over to one of his coordinators (most likely Austin) but decided this was to soon.

by poweforheisman.com on Dec 8, 2009 8:27 PM EST via mobile reply actions

He said almost right after he was hired

that he had no plans to stay here ten years like at Arkansas.

If we get 4 winning seasons out of him, at least two of which are 8 win seasons, I’ll be ok when he leaves.

by RAZORED on Dec 8, 2009 9:10 PM EST reply actions

Then you've got the right coach!

The next two seasons will probably be losers for you just be sure to get off no later than the end of season six that way you will get four winning seasons out of six (.666% is pretty much is record). That way his stock is up and he can move on to greener pastures…a win/win situation for all concerned.

by RAZORED on Dec 8, 2009 10:18 PM EST up reply actions

By now you know...

…that I read alot of stuff and save my unsolicited commentary for the most inopportune times. Here’s one of those times, but don’t fret. I’m harmless right now.

WHY do these “other white-meat” trollers keep copming in here with their hate? I know…it’s a question ALL the regulars on here have asked a million times in the last two years, but I just had to take my turn.

What is it they expect to contribute? What is it they expect to accomplish by coming by every damned week year-in and year-out to say, “Nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah, boo, boo! Houston Nutt sucks and he’s your problem now!”

It truly is puzzling. Yep. He IS our problem. A successful, motivational coach is a good problem to have, IMO.

I am like y’all, however. If he leaves, he leaves. I couldn’t care less because it is ULTIMATELY in our best interest to promote Austin or Nix to HC. We are fine.

I’m guessing life must really SUCK for “other white-meat” fans as they have so much frickity-frickin’ time to spend over here trying to upset the playground.

Petrino looks for other jobs, and takes them, for well, I don’t know why. Likely not money. Nutt looks for other job to squeeze another dime out of his current employer. Which is worse? Probably neither.

The League

The League is much funnier to me after being involved with this blog than it would have been if I weren’t. That is to say, it wouldn’t be as funny if I could say “I don’t get it”.

Kinda like how I find The Guild absolutely hilarious, but most of you would probably rather shoot yourselves than watch it. (Same concept as The League, but only available online and in it’s third season, so probably the original idea. Also, it’s not about fantasy sports, but an MMO clique – think World of Warcraft.) … Did I just call myself out?

I can ask

for an SEC West title, an SEC title, a BCS bowl, a nice long streak of victories over our rivals (read: SEC teams not named Arkansas), and a good recruit or two.

But I know that for the most part, at least 60% of those requests are pipe dreams.

Honestly, I don’t care whether he stays or goes, or when. Just you Arky guys who can’t seem to NOT care, even though you threw his ass out on the lawn with a suitcase two years ago.

Have any of y'all ever been to Six Flags over Georgia?

Juco and I went once and let me tell you, the Superman and Goliath coasters are incredible! Superman actually gives you the ability to “fly” like Superman in that you’re strapped into a harness of sorts and thrown around parallel to the ground. It’s definitely a great way to “Superman that ho!”

And the Goliath coaster is the tallest in the park! It is so tall that the initial decent gets up to a whopping 70 miles per hour! Quite a thrill!

by The Ghost of Jay Cutler on Dec 9, 2009 9:03 AM EST up reply actions

Watching us ride the rollercoaster

is all well and good.

BUT

Y’all are watching us ride and then screaming at us from behind the fence when the car we’re riding gets to a certain point on the ride, telling us we should have listened to you about this rollercoaster, and that we’ll regret going on it in the long run.

Mind your own bloody business and go call my bacon!

Maybe I'm off base here......

But at least he went on and said that he talked to them. He’s probably just playing the game for a little more cash. Granted that’s kind of shitty morally, but I can’t really fault him too much for looking out for himself. In the grand scheme of things, you have to put into perspective that he has taken us to back-to-back NYD bowls after the royal clusterfuck that was ED Orgeron’s tenure.

It's great to know

this is happening to an SEC West rival. Sweet stuff.
Only an idiot would think Nutt is only being gracious in talking with Kansas. It’s all about the money.
Recruiting is better in MS. He also has ties in AR and Northern LA.
Kansas has to take leftovers from Texas, OU, OSU and Texas A&M. Their roster is filled with leftover Texas recruits.
The only thing Kansas has that anybody wants is a few of their Juco players, and you can’t build a team on those alone.
Ole Miss isn’t going to be very good next season. It’s time for Nutt to collect a raise.
That’s what he means by the “timing” comment.

I still hope you guys beat OSU though. SEC rules!

by GonzoHog on Dec 9, 2009 7:19 PM EST reply actions

It's funny that we're now rivals...

only because Nutt is at Ole Miss. So hypothetically if he left, would you become rivals with Kansas, or would you just start hating our new coach out of the convenience of us being in the SEC West? If in fact you did become rivals with Kansas, would you try to move to the Big XII so you can play Kansas with regularity?
