Meyer's Actually Staying, Sorta

I know you know this already, so I'm really only putting it up here for consistency's sake.  Honestly, this year felt a bit odd without there being any real coaching changes or controversy in the SEC and Meyer's sudden health concerns seemed to be the sports gods attempting to right that perceived wrong.

Well guess what, sports gods?  This is Urban Meyer, the king of cold-blooded and do-or-die.  He'll be around for a while, I'm guessing.

What does a leave of absence mean in the off season?

Does it mean that he won’t be part of recruiting, and if not, who will be referred to as “the head coach” to the players? Also, what are some of the other responsibilities that he won’t be fulfilling? I’ve always thought of the off season as a time for recruiting and strength and conditioning. What else is there for the head to do?

I was born in Mississippi, and I don't take any stuff from you, and if I hit you on your head, boy, it's got to make it black and blue.

Convince the recruits that he may actually still be around next season.

There’s still 5 weeks before NSD. The longer a recruit waffles around with his decision making, the more likely he is to go ahead and stay put.
Florida A.D. Foley is no dummy. If there’s going to be a new head coach at UF next season, Meyer is in the middle of the search as we speak, but mainly just helping to keep the homefront quite as recruits start asking questions.
I say it’s still 50-50 he comes back.

I hope for nothing but the best for him.

He is an amazing coach and seems to be a pretty good guy all around. I’m wondering if this waffling is money related, though. If he’s using his health excuse as a ploy for more cash, though, he should be sentenced to coaching for 10 years at ULM or SELU (or insert your own bullshit team here). Speaking from a purely medical standpoint, if a heart valve issue has caused numerous hospitalizations in a months time, that valve needs to be replaced, an operation that would put him out of commission for at least 3-6 months.
