Nix to Stay
As has been reported elsewhere, Tyrone Nix will not be the new defensive coordinator for the Florida Gators. He apparently thought long and hard about the switch but opted to stay in his current situation. Apparently he likes Nutt and Oxford just that much.
Brandt say:
Nix, who is currently in the first year of a three-year contract that pays $350,000 annually, will receive a raise according to coach Houston Nutt.
The amount of the raise hasn't been finalized.
Well if anybody on this staff deserves to be paid it's Nix. Our defense was the most consistent unit of this football team over the past two seasons.
Happy almost football-free Saturday, folks.

I agree
Yes Coach O left us some great talent but Nix has turned them into the Landsharks that we love. I don’t think that we will keep Nix for much longer (he is going to be a HC some time) but we should keep him as long as we can.
That's great news
Nix earned even more respect from the Ole Miss faithful by doing this I think.

You hit that one...
…on the head. Loyalty is one of those intangibles that schools need and fans appreciate.
No earth shattering statement, there, huh? Sounds like the blathering sports-color guys on t.v. “Scoring more points will help you win, Bob,” or, “If he doesn’t get some protection from his line, their sack numbers are going to increase!”
Well, thannks, Captain Obvious. Wish I could get that kinda money doing THAT kinda gig!!!

Keeping a coach from leaving for a high profile gig speaks volumes
about the direction the program is (hopefully) heading. Just a few years ago, our Athletic Department likely wouldn’t have put up much of a fight if a school like UF had come calling for an assistant/coordinator. I know most aren’t happy with Nutt’s recent flirtation with KU (nor am I if he was the one that initiated it), but it is the mindset that he, being an experienced HC in the SEC, brought with him to OM that has caused our administration to rethink the way business is handled.
That mindset will hopefully pay dividends in the future when we potentially have to replace coaches, be it the head guy or assistants, b/c candidates will know that OM will take the right steps to keep them here if they have earned it. Also, recruits will take notice that OM was able to ward away a program like UF, showing a committment to winnning that seemed a bit lax earlier this decade.
