Tuesday Question - 11/3/09

Generally, we are the "authors" of "content" around here - "here" being a blog and not a message board. Recognize, we do, that you've come here not to contribute, but to consume. Nevertheless, there is the sporadic occasion where, either for our benefit or for to exercise the thinkifiers of the masses, we ask you a question. Today's question is ...

On a scale of 1 to 10, how excited will you be if the Lady Rebels win the SEC Soccer Tournament this weekend?

... with 1 being "the SEC plays women's soccer?"

With Northern Arizona University Love Week well underway for the football team, basketball season still a few weeks away, and Barnabas Kirui having already pulled the "Rebel SEChampionhip-o-meter" up to 1 with his individual title in Men's Cross Country, Lady Rebel Soccer deserves some spotlight!

Steve Holeman's squad is having one of its finest seasons yet, as their 7-2-2 conference record was the second-best in team history.  The Lady Rebels finished just behind LSU for the Western Division crown, but beat SEC regular season champion Florida for the first time since futbol was football.  FotC and little league soccer coach Role Player nicely summarized the season highlights earlier this week.

Now post-season play has begun.  The Lady Rebels will have decent seeding for the NCAA tournament, but are, no doubt, focused on this weekend's SEC Tournament in well-known soccer mecca Orange Beach, Ala.  The opening round match-up on Wednesday for Ole Miss is against the Auburn Tigers (revengeku).  The Lady Tigers went down against the Red and Blue in late September 3-2 and would likely face LSU in the semi-finals.  Auburn and Ole Miss play at 5:00 CST - after the media relations people have gone home - so you can, no joke, hear it here first when the Lady Rebels notch the victory.

Tournament wins… just lack some of the luster of regular season wins.

Also, even after reading Role Player’s posts, I still don’t actually know the name of a single player on our team.

We are...Ole Miss, so a 9!

We are a great team, but I expressed my concerns about our lack of attacking vigor, which will need to change if we are to perform well in the tournament. We let inferior teams stick with us too long, and all it takes is one goal (damn you, Vanderbilt!). Steve Holeman is the only head coach we have ever had, building the program from the ground up. Building is definitely what he is continuing to do too. Though we have ebbed and flowed, it has been in an overall upward direction and that gets me excited. However, I am worried that we will be upset by Auburn or be punished for not putting LSU away with early chances – not to mention, beating Florida again will be difficult. That is why I’ll be really freaking excited if we win this tournament.

FYI – Our game is at 2:30 CST, not 5:00. And Juco’s comment does not make any sense.

Sure it does...

I don’t know the names of any players because I don’t care enough to learn them.

And yet...

you claim that there is “luster” to regular season games.

To care or not to care – how about I just contradict myself?

What do the players look like?

That would make me care more.

I give this a 2 sight unseen; a 7 if we have a lot of good-looking players (which we should — this is Ole Miss, after all).

Don't try and lay no boogie woogie on the king of rock 'n roll.

I give it a ten! A ten! A mother f*cking ten!
(Yes, that was a lame, immature Varsity Blues reference. Please forgive me.)
