Arkansas Prediction

Arkansas_medium

Let me preface this post by saying that I hate the Arkansas Razorbacks. I didn't hate them at all until two years ago. It's not so much that I hate the team. As for the players and even Bobby Petrino, I couldn't care less whether they won or lost. It's the fans. We have received so much crap from them every single week. 10-20% of our comment threads have some mention of Arkansas even if the article never says a word about them.

It's despicable. That's why this prediction is difficult to write.

Star-divide

I think Arkansas will beat us. There. I said it.

It's not that I'm down on the team or have given up hope. Lest you forget, I predicted that Arkansas would beat us before the season even began. They're just a very difficult matchup.

Unfortunately, they have gotten to be an even more difficult one. Ryan Mallett is very, very good, and their receivers are excellent. They don't use the running game as effectively as I thought they would, but they haven't really needed it all that much. Bobby Petrino knows the passing game, and I'm sure he has noticed that our defense struggles against misdirections and delayed runs. I look for Michael Smith to have several runs of over ten yards, and it wouldn't surprise me to see freshman sensation Ronnie Wingo Jr. do a lot with the football. The key will be to perform effectively against the Arkansas passing offense. They won't beat us with the run. They'll beat us with the pass. DJ Williams is an excellent tight end. Greg Childs and Joe Adams are also great receivers (though Adams may not play in the game).

I know that the Arkansas defense has been pretty bad this season, giving up several long passing plays per game. I just don't know if that will be enough in this game. Until Jevan Snead proves otherwise, I'm counting on at least two picks from him every game that we face decent competition. If we give their offense the ball two more times than they would get it normally, it will spell defeat for the Rebels. Brandon Bolden and Rodney Scott will be fine, but the blueprint to stop Ole Miss is going to stop those two.

The word is out. To stop Ole Miss, you put eight in the box, blitz, and double cover Shay Hodge. Jevan doesn't get enough time to look Shay off because our offensive line is quite bad. Then he throws a pass that he shouldn't into coverage, and against a defense that doesn't suck (see: not UAB), defensive backs catch it and try to make something happen. We have to give Jevan time for an entire game against a legitimate opponent. If it starts in this game, we could possibly win. I don't think that will happen though, so I'm predicting...

Arkansas by three.

Agree? Disagree? Let's hear it.

whatever happened to that fucktard GONZOHOG?

I just hope our defensive improvements continue.

Disagree.

Then again, I always think we’re going to win. Why? I can’t bear to believe otherwise. We’re going to win because we’re Ole Miss, and they’re Arkansas. That’s not the most analytical or evidence-based reasoning, but it’s the only reasoning I care to hear.

I was born in Mississippi, and I don't take any stuff from you, and if I hit you on your head, boy, it's got to make it black and blue.

Can't really say where I heard it...

But turns out Jevan might have been making his girl problems seem a little less important than they were.

I’m expecting AN entirely different QB out there this week.

Black helicopters and what not… but I’m pretty confident in this one.

I think you guys are due for a good offensive performance

but still think you’ll come up just a little short. Hogs by 4.

Should be a prettay, prettay, prettay good game.

As Role Player and I discussed...

I already think one of my favorite football (read:all types of the game) teams will lose this week…..I think we win an ugly ugly game. Do you think ESPN would like another 3-2 SEC game?

by astaylo1 on Oct 23, 2009 5:56 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Definitely won't be ugly

Arkansas’ offense is too good and our defense too bad for this game to be “ugly.” There will be points scored. More by the hogs because y’all haven’t seen a QB like Mallett yet.

Ever since we lost to South Carolina...

I have found it basically impossible to get excited about a single game. There’s a hole in my heart. I have bitterly watched every game while thinking in the back of my mind “We’ll probably just fuck this up.” That said, I am cautiously optimist that we will win tomorrow. I don’t know why or how. I just feel like we’ve simply played too shittily (is that a word?) to not have some kind of upswing (no, last week doesn’t count as an upswing. I say we win.

Last game Ole Miss wins over Arkansas

I hope I’m wrong, but Bobby Petrino has already proven he’s not a master motivator with the Alabama debacle. Houston Nutt tends to be pretty good when he’s unranked and underestimated. And Jevan Snead is due; there’s no way he embarrasses himself all season. Although, if Dennis Johnson has a big return or someone breaks one early in the rushing game like DJ did against Florida to open up the play action, Arkansas could pull it out. Either way, this will be the closest, most entertaining game in the SEC tomorrow.
My prediction: Ole Miss 95 – Arkansas 92 (17OT) Arkansas loses on a missed field goal by Tejada when he is mauled before the ball is snapped by Greg Hardy. No flag on the play.

20/20 hindsight...

…because my wife and I had a grand day together ysterday and I was offline for nearly 48 hours~

Looks like eating all that bar-be-que {and a pack of 2 year-old bacon I found in the bottom of the freezer} WORKED!!!

NOW…where do I get some processed tiger/eagle meat?
