UAB HATE WEEK

Uab_0008_medium
Rawr!

I really don't know exactly what there is to hate about UAB.  They're a CUSA team located in a middle-tier Southern city with a school that can boast a fine medical center.  I guess their bizarre take on what exactly a "blazer" is is something worth making fun of, but I can't muster up the effort.

Since when is Birmingham middle-tier?

I include Mountain Brook as part of B’ham and there’s nothing middle about that town.

by Hunter C. on Oct 13, 2009 1:30 PM EDT reply actions

Top-tier

New Orleans
Asheville
Nashville
Atlanta
Charleston

Birmingham cannot compare. It is definitely in the middle-tier with the likes of Memphis, Mobile, Baton Rouge, etc. Not bad cities, but not great ones either.

Add Charlotte to top-tier

They’re doin big thangs in that city.

Asheville as top tier?

It’s a wonderful place, but I don’t see it with the others.

Asheville?

Are you fucking kidding me? Charlottesville tops that patchouli hippy commune any day of the week. There is nothing about Asheville that puts it in the same class at Nashville or ’Nola. And their pot, while plentiful, is average as well.

Charlottesville isn't a "city"

in the same sense that Athens isn’t a “city.” They’re too small.

B'ham is definitely middle tier

IMHO, Mountain Brook is “nice” like Alpharetta, Georgia is “nice”….just another case of the United States of Generica.

Along this "tiered Southern cities" discussion,

let’s actually establish some tiers. Only mention those that you’ve actually been to for a long enough time to get a feel for it.

ONE
New Orleans
Asheville
Nashville
Atlanta

TWO
Memphis
Birmingham
Mobile
Baton Rouge

THREE
Little Rock
Jackson
Montgomery
Shreveport

AVOID
Monroe

by The Ghost of Jay Cutler on Oct 13, 2009 3:29 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm sorry, have you been to Monroe?

Jackson is on par with Montgomery in my opinion. The few nice parts of town aren’t bad at all, but there is an overall dearth of things to do.

by The Ghost of Jay Cutler on Oct 13, 2009 3:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Fine

Jackson should be in “Four” then. No way is Jackson like Little Rock or Montgomery.

You serious Clark?

Baton Rouge over Jackson? I’m sorry but no. Hell no.

Also how big does a city have to be to make it, cause Savannah, GA should be added to tier one, even though it’s only around 130k people.

And if you’ll take any population go ahead and add St. Simons, GA too.

by Hunter C. on Oct 13, 2009 5:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Gonna have to agree

Baton Rouge reminds me of Pasadena, TX. Which is where they filmed Urban Cowboy.

Tiered Southern Cities

I’d move Little Rock into the second tier. I’ve had more fun there than expected. The downtown area isn’t that bad and they usually have great concerts come through. Plus it’s surrounded by great duck hunting areas in the winter and great lakes for the summertime. I’m not from The Rock. I’m from Memphis.

Chattanooga?

Should be at least a Tier 2. Great downtown and outdoors emphasis. Only big problems are all the Vol and Ga Dawg fans.

Ever since the picture of the UAB chick

with a painted black eye and t-shirt that said “I Dated Dozier” on it during the Memphis game a few years ago, I’ve found it hard to not like that school.

Note Pierre Niles on the far right

reaching over the cop, into the stands and slapping that kid in the face. Sums up Memphis, but doesn’t make me hate the blazers

First time ever playing UAB

At least we’ll have a winning record against a college in Alabama.

UAB sucks.....

UAB is nothing but a crappy Memphis-like football program……just a little better.

I’m sure some of the loser fans will talk about how we lost to Bama and all (I agree the way we played was an abortion), but I’m calmly just going to ask the ones that bring it up if they went to Bama? (or whatever school they claim to be with) When they say no, I’m going to respond with a simple “F-off” and will conduct myself in this manner for the rest of the year. With as horrible as we’re playing on offense I definitely recommend this line of action to help keep you sane because the majority of “fans” never even went to whatever SEC school they are posing for……plus you get a kick out of making them look like a fool.

But seriously, the UAB QB is pretty good (dual threat) and can put up some numbers. I’m betting on a Rebel W, but it will probably be of the 17-10 kind……pathetic.
